Sara Oldfield is a botanist and plant conservation expert and she has kindly agreed to help the Trust as we take practical projects forward. In many cases the conservation needs of butterflies are linked to their foodplants. For example, the British Swallowtail seems to be restricted by the availability of Milk Parsley, and many birdwings can be assisted by enriching potential habitats with Aristolochia vines, as is happening for the Richmond Birdwing in Australia. Until recently Sara was Secretary General of Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), leading this organisation for ten years. Prior to joining BGCI, Sara worked for a range of other conservation organisations. In 2016, Sara was awarded an OBE for the conservation of tree species worldwide.
