Dr Darren Bito has been appointed to the position of Entomologist at the Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing Project in Papua New Guinea. Dr Bito, who holds a degree and master’s from the University of PNG and a PhD from Griffiths University in Queensland, is an experienced entomologist who most recently worked as Dean at the School of Science and Technology in Pacific Adventist University, PNG. Prior to this, he carried out entomological research at the New Guinea Binatang Research Centre. Dr Bito will receive additional induction at the Kuranda Butterfly Farm, near Cairns, before taking up his post at the Higaturu Estate near Popondetta, where a new laboratory and breeding facility for this, the world’s largest and most endangered butterfly, is currently under construction.
